Looking for Original Art? The Spring Arts Market Features 30 Rotating Local Vendors Each Month
So it may be a little too cold for many to enjoy outdoor festivals and markets. However, if you’re looking to enjoy a free indoor arts market, you’re in luck. The Spring Arts Market located at the Spring Arts District (1010 Spring Garden St.) offers guests a chance to peruse 30 local artists under one roof. The market is open 12 pm to 5 pm every second Saturday of each month (January 13th is the next event).
Put together by the Spring Arts Merchant Association (SAMA), formed by small business owners in the Spring Arts District (Houndstooth Tattoo, Winsome, Love City, Art & Crafts Holding, Russo Music, School or Rock, and Allie Gerber Accounting) the market curated by local artist and event planner Kristin Scholz of Sea of Doom. The goal of the Spring Arts Market is to “activate a currently unoccupied space in order to welcome people to our neighborhood to see what it has to offer. We thought that a market that also promoted local Philadelphia artists and small businesses who do not have a brick and mortar location would be mutually beneficial,” Kristin states.
So what can guests expect? Well, each month the market features different vendors to keep things fresh so shoppers can expect a different experience each time. This month’s line-up includes Sea of Doom, Houndstooth Tattoo, In The Mourning Shop, Chloe Dougherty, Slag Bags, Tuft Broad, Sidewalk Press, Into the Unknown Antiques, Bearded Noise, Em Wilson Pastry, Kelsey Marie Gavin, Jen Thunderhorse, Birdwatchers Studio, Jo Pots, Pegasus Valley, JP Kim Illustration, Owned By Twins, Mr. Scoot, RSinn Ink, Philly Candles, Cloudless Shop of Stories & Curiosities, Let’s Get Spooky, The 50/50 Company, Randu Art, Moonlit Flora, 3bhh Co / Serving Silver, Secret Gemini Shop, Val Volkova, and Jeremy Berkman Graphic Design. This month’s market will also feature pastry chef Em Wilson for those looking for something to snack on.
“As professional artists, we know how isolating running our own small business can be, so, in addition to offering local artists and small business owners an opportunity for exposure to a larger audience, we also hope to offer a sense of community within the market itself: a place to meet like minded creators and to connect,” Kristin adds.
The market is 100% free to attend with free parking behind the venue (Union Transfer) until 5pm. For artists looking to participate, applications for future markets are open now.
