Kenyatta Johnson’s Community Appreciation Day Returns With 100+ Vendors and Headliners Fabolous, SWV, and Remy Ma

Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson will host Community Appreciation Day on Saturday, August 29, from noon to 8 p.m., at the intersection of Point Breeze Avenue and Tasker Street in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia. The event is held in partnership with I-LEAD.

Johnson has hosted Community Appreciation Day annually since his time as a state representative and has continued the tradition since being elected to City Council. The event is intended to give back to the community through free food, resources, school supply giveaways and family-friendly activities. This year’s theme, “Education Matters,” focuses on the role of education in building a strong community.

More than 100 vendors are registered to participate, including merchandise vendors, nonprofit organizations, city and state agencies, a mobile health truck, and food trucks. City and state agencies will be on-site to share information about their programs, and local vendors and small businesses will also be selling goods.

The event will feature live performances from Fabolous, Remy Ma and SWV, with local artists performing before the headliners take the stage. Additional activities will include amusement rides, moon bounces, a game truck, youth DJs and dance contests.

A free bookbag and school supply giveaway will also be available for students while supplies last.

“Community Appreciation Day is all about giving back to the people of Philadelphia,” Johnson said. He said the event connects residents with free resources, school supplies and entertainment for all ages, and noted that city and state agencies, along with local vendors, will be on hand to share information and services supporting local neighborhoods. Johnson added that the event is his way of thanking the city, particularly families and neighbors in the Second District.
