Kalaya Chef Nok and Cake & Joe Team-Up to Create a Special New Cake “Thai Tea Cake”
Philly’s hottest new dessert shop, Cake & Joe, has teamed up with Kalaya chef and owner Chutatip “Nok” Suntaranon to create a special new cake to be sold exclusively at Kalaya, located at 746 S. 9th Street in Philadelphia. The cake is available on the menu as of Friday, March 12th.
Nok and Cake & Joe baker Trista Tang created the “Thai Tea Cake,” which includes Thai tea mousse, caramel cream, chocolate floralized cake, and an almond biscuit. The cake will be priced at $12.50.
The idea to collaborate came to life during Cake & Joe’s opening week back in December, when Nok went to the dessert shop and fell in love with the cakes. “I went in and bought almost every cake,” said Nok. “They tasted like they could be served at any of the top restaurants around. I knew I wanted to work with Trista and Sarah right away.” Sarah Qi is Co-owner of Cake & Joe.
“Nok is one of the most talented chefs anywhere, so we are just so honored to work with her,” said Tang. “We love the flavors of this new cake, and we had a lot of fun coming up with the ingredients and figuring out what tasted best.”
In 2020, Nok’s Kalaya was a James Beard finalist for Best New Restaurant in America, was named as one of the best new restaurants in America by Food & Wine, and Esquire named Kalaya as the No. 1 best new restaurant in America, also in 2020.
