Johnny Mañanas Opens in Fishtown
Looks like the Mexican food selection in Fishtown continues to grow. Johnny Mañanas can now be added to the growing list which includes Loco Pez, Sancho Pistolas’s & Calle De Sabor (taco truck). The new location recently opened at 1082 N. Delaware Ave. just across from the Sugar House Casino.
A pretty popular place in the East Falls section of Philly, Johnny Mañanas has expanded and they’ve enlisted the help of some pretty seasoned chefs (pun intended). Owner Tim Bonnie brought Susan VenVreede on board to become executive chef and general manager. You may not be familiar with the name but if you’re a fan of Jose Garces’ Distrito then you have definitely tasted her creations.
Among the cool features you’ll find at the new Johnny Mañanas is the awesome selection of tequilas which includes over 90 varieties. They seem to be pretty serious about their tacos as well, opting to use adobo-rubbed New York strip and grand Wagyu over ground beef. Expect other great menu options including fresh guacamole made every hour, as well as fish-of-the-day ceviche.
Although the location is not in the most walkable part of Fishtown, we believe with the addition of the Fillmore as well as other soon-to-be open bars and distilleries, this section of Fishtown will soon a hot spot and possibly restore some of the excitement that Delaware Ave. has been missing.
