Hey sushi lovers, a new sushi bar is coming to Fairmount this April. 33-year-old restaurateur Albert Zheng is set to open the all-new Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, Javelin at 1811 Fairmount Avenue.

The 50-seat restaurant and bar replaces Engimono Sushi, which operated for 8 years and closed in late January. The restaurant will have a full cocktail and wine program run by Richie Tray of the Library Bar at The Rittenhouse, who is consulting on the project. Javelin will be open seven days a week for dine-in, takeout, and delivery from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations will be available on Toast Tables.

In addition to a premium selection of sushi, sashimi and maki, the menu will feature a variety of Japanese dishes, including a crab & avocado tower, smacking truffle toro, seared Japanese A5 wagyu with seasonal vegetables, miso seabass with ikura and seasonal vegetables, udon noodle soup, seaweed salad, kani salad, sashimi ceviche salad, Takoyaki, veggie gyoza, rock shrimp, calamari, a duck wrap, Sakura pouches, tuna tacos, a dozen specialty rolls, and more.

During the warmer months, there will be several tables along Fairmount Avenue for alfresco dining. The interior is designed by Zheng, with pine flooring and reflective silver tile walls in addition to a new bar which abuts to the sushi counter. Zheng is also an investor in Ogawa Sushi & Kappo, which opened in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood in November 2023.
