High Street’s Farmers Market is Back With a Festive Kick-off Party

On Saturday, June 4, High Street on Market will welcome back Plowshare Farms to kick off its second season of weekly Saturday Farmers Markets. Plowshare works with High Street to bring farm-fresh produce and other local, seasonal products to the heart of Philadelphia’s historic Old City district throughout the summer. This year’s farmers markets will feature several weekly vendors and a rotating cast of monthly vendors who will visit on set Saturdays each month, bringing not just produce and baked goods, but also meat, eggs, preserves, cheeses and beverages to the one-stop artisanal shop housed beneath two expansive tents in front of High Street.

Three vendors will always be on site:

  • Plowshare Farms, offering fresh-picked seasonal vegetables, herbs and fruits from local farms
  • High Street on Market, offering breads, pastries and other prepared foods
  • Primal Supply, offering local and sustainably raised meat and eggs from pioneering Butcher Heather Marold Thomason, formerly of Kensington Quarters.

The other four vendors will each participate in the market once a month on a regular schedule, so that guests will always know which vendor will be present on which week:

  • First Saturday: Spruce Hill Preserves, offering preserves of all varieties, prepared with local, seasonal produce and organic ingredients
  • Second Saturday: Cherry Grove Farm, offering small-batch cheeses from a diversified, sustainable dairy farm and creamery in nearby Lawrenceville, NJ
  • Third Saturday: Random Tea Room, offering exceptional teas and house-blended herbal infusions from their tea room and curiosity shop located just a few blocks away on North 4th Street
  • Fourth Saturday: Press Gang Ginger Beer, offering small-batch, balanced, not-too-spicy ginger beer perfect on its own or as a component of craft cocktails

The kick-off party, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., will feature all of the market’s many vendors together for a one-day-only opportunity to shop all of their wares at once and get to know the rotating cast who will appear at markets throughout the month. A live band, Jefferson Oatts Quartet, will soundtrack the kick-off party under the restaurant’s two new tents, purchased specifically for their weekly farmers markets; like the market itself, the kick-off event will be held rain or shine. After the kick-off party, Saturday Farmers Markets will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday.

In addition to their own market, High Street will follow up on last year’s amazing season by vending their coveted artisanal breads and pastries at other farmers markets around the city, making it easier than ever for fans to purchase and enjoy their award-winning baked goods:
