Has Bezos Gone Too Far? Amazon Drones Delivery Fleet Just got Cleared by the FAA!
Jeff Bezos has a strong hate group on his tail. In fact a group of protestors set up a guillotine outside of his home this past week. Now it looks like there will be something new for his opposition to protest. Amazon was one of a few companies that were just certified by government to operate drone delivery fleets.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) gave the okay for Amazon Prime Air “air carrier” to take to the skies. Amazon will still need to clear a few more hurdles before they can begin their trial program. However, if everything pans put expect to get small packages air dropped straight to your door.
In regards to the recent approvals of drone deliveries, the FAA stated that they were looking to support innovative ideas and ventures in the expanding drone arena. Other companies that have gotten FAA approval to operate small airlines are Alphabet Inc, Wing and United States Parcel Service.
Wing which is a new name for most, has been working with FedEx and has already conducted deliveries in Virginia. In addition UPS actually already uses drones to deliver medical supplies within a Raleigh, North Carolina hospital campus.
As for Amazon they already have test sites ready to go in the Pacific Northwest. In the future, Amazon drones known as MK27 will deliver packages up to 5 lbs within a 7.5 miles radius of a warehouse and deliver within 3o minutes.
