To get the name “The Sushi Whisperer” just know that his track record speaks for itself. Chef Kevin Yanaga (@phillysushiwhisperer) formally of Pod, Zama, Izakaya Fishtown, Double Knot, will now look to create his very own concept in Northern Liberties dubbed Yanaga Kappo Izakaya (@yanaga_kappo_izakaya).

“When it comes to this event, part of the draw for me came from being local driven. Philadelphia has so much to offer and experience with different outlets of expression. Seeing different takes on local artists and how they prepare and present different styles of art reminds me much of what I love about what I do myself. Japanese cuisine itself is my creative way to express and teach what I can not convey with words, much like art in a gallery. We are excited to be a part of this event, showcasing a bit of my art form surrounded by a different type of art.”

For those looking to get a preview taste of YKI, Chef Yanaga will be featured as part of a special “Sushi Sip & Snack” event presented by Com.unity (@com.unity.phl) as part of InLiquid’s (@inliquidart ) 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Sushi Sip & Snack will take place on Thursday March 21 from 6-9 pm at the Crane Arts Studio (1400 N American St.) and will feature drinks from beverage partners like Two Robbers ( @two_robbers ) , Kenwood Beer ( @kenwoodbeer ) , Philadelphia Distilling (@philadelphiadistilling) , Aperol ( @aperolusa) , Fever Tree ( @fevertree_usa ) and non-alcoholic cocktails by Bar Palmina (@barpalmina).

In addition to the food and drinks, guests will be able to support local artists such as @kikiaranita, @rydeas by visiting the “IceBox” where various pieces will be on exhibition. Tickets are $85 and be purchased here.
