The Gallery Mall is About to get an Extreme Makeover
Let’s face it the Gallery is long past it’s heyday. The once bustling epicenter of Center City is a shell of its former self. Walk through the mall now and you’ll see tons of empty stores that were once crowded. Its more of a train stop then it is a shopping mall.
Although there have been talks of converting it into a casino, the latest solid news is that the Gallery will undergo renovations. Gallery officials have confirmed that California based Macerich, which has a great reputation in the commercial real estate business in regards to developing mixed-use and commercial properties, have partnered up with the Gallery to redo the mall.
One of the main key changes will be to make the mall more transparent and accessible from street level. Center City district president Paul Levy was quoted as saying, “essentially turning the project inside out, so it would be animating the street. There would be ground floor retail and restaurants.”
No word yet on when the project will begin, but if all goes well this may spark the rebirth the Gallery has long been needing.
