If you frequented the Southeast Asian Market in FDR park this past summer, you may have come across Viet YUM Café. Now the owners have upgraded their stand to a brick and mortar location at 1308 W. Girard.

“We’re known for our chargrilled skewers and were lucky enough to join the Sunday Asian Food Market in FDR and would feature one tea and grilled meats. After two, sell-out days, we knew we had a hit,” states co-owner  Charles Morgan . Charles along with his partner Ryan Thai decided to open a permanent location along with business partners Rachel Mohrmann, and Keith Hammond.

Viet Yum offers a variety of entrees including thịt bò (grilled beef skewers ), hịt heo (pork skewers), Nem Lụi Huế  (grilled lemongrass pork sausage from Hue), cơm bò nướng (grilled beef and rice) as well as classic Vietnamese options such as pork and beef bánh mì.

Known for they’re classic combos, Viet Yum will also offer a wide variety of beverages including Vietnamese coffee, iced green tea, iced kiwi tea, ice orange green tea and many more.

What started off as a trip with his partner to Southern Vietnam soon became a labor of love for the couple. “Ryan, who took me to his home in Southern Vietnam and opened up a new world of culture and cuisine I had never experienced before. This journey was ignited by the love I found in the foods we tasted across Southern Vietnam on trips with Ryan and Ryan’s family,” Charles described.

“Our primary focus is on providing the freshest ingredients which transfers to our nuanced flavor profiles as well as picking recipes not typically showcased in the US. We do traditional South Vietnamese recipes and feature different dishes as ingredients become available. The goal is to grow into a traditional restaurant with a dining room. So every single order counts toward that goal,” Charles added.

Viet YUM Café is solely pick-up and delivery and is open Tues. 4 pm- 9 pm, Wed.  3 pm – 9 pm, Thursday 3 pm to 12 am, and Friday 4 pm – 2 am and Saturday  3 pm – 2 am.
