Franklin the B.I.G Blue Dog is the Sixers’ New Mascot?
Yikes! It looks like the Sixers finally decided on a new mascot and it’s none other than Clifford the Big Red Dog’s oxygen deficient cousin Franklin. The new blue dog mascot was unveiled today at the Franklin Institute.
In a ceremony packed with kids and streamed live over the Sixers’ official site, the new mascot Franklin was introduced after a short video montage showing Franklin along side Philadelphia legends such as Rocky, Dr. J, Allen Iverson, and of course Benjamin Franklin. As the video drew to a close, Franklin propelled from the ceiling and into the group of hundreds of little tikes there to witness the unveiling.
After two defunct mascots which include Hip Hop and and Big Shot, Franklin is being branded as “for kids, by kids.” So expect very safe antics and a Sesame Street-like family friendly environment at Wells Fargo moving forward.
Franklin officially makes his debut February 20th as the Sixers host the Indiana Pacers. The first 5,000 kids at the game will receive a free Franklin jersey.
