Esperanza Arts Center is Hosting a Special Night of Cultural Documentaries and Q&A’s Focusing on Art & Community
Here’s an event that has plenty of cultura. On Saturday April 13th Teatro Esperanza at the Esperanza Arts Center (4261 N. 5th St.) will be hosting a special night screening cultural documentaries followed by Q&A’s.
For those that enjoy art especially street art, this is an opportunity to check out the screening of Street Heroines which focuses on “the experiences of Latina artists from New York City, Mexico City, and São Paulo as they navigate a male-dominated subculture to establish artistic identities within chaotic urban landscapes, Street Heroines combines anecdotes from pioneering artists including Lady Pink, Swoon, and Toofly in this first-of-its-kind film to capture the collective outcry of female street artists,” organizers state.
Street Heroines will be proceeded by the opening short I am Danny Torres which is part of a series of short documentaries highlighting the everyday people of Philadelphia’s Puerto Rican Community and “showing what it takes to make our community beautiful while teaching Puerto Rico’s rich culture in Philadelphia,” organizers added.
This event will also include a special Q&A with panelists: Erick Barragán Ramírez (Moderator), Alexandra Henry (Director). Michelle Angela Ortiz (Artist), and Manuela Guillén (Artist).
This event begins 7:30 and tickets are $15 (free for students and seniors). Tickets are available at esperanzaartscenter.us/event/street-heroines/
