Culinary, Visual, and Performing Artists Will Converge in Roxborough for the 3rd Annual “Art is Life” Street Festival!
The Roxborough Development Corporation (RDC) is hosting it’s third annual Art Is Life spring street festival on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2017 on Ridge Avenue in Roxborough between Green Lane and Leverington Avenue. The festival will run from 12 noon until 6:00 pm, rain or shine. Art Is Life celebrates the myriad ways in which art enters our everyday lives. This year’s festival will feature three main performance stages showcasing culinary, performing and visual arts as well as dozens of pop-up shops lining the main artery of the beloved Roxborough neighborhood.
New to Art Is Life this year is an interactive cooking competition called, “So You Think You Can Cook.” From everyday cooks to amateur home chefs the contest allows entrants the chance to showcase their culinary skills on the Art Is Life Culinary Arts Stage in front of a panel of celebrity judges. “Through a partnership with instructors at the Art Institute of Philadelphia we are glad to add this year’s culinary competition to Art Is Life,” said James Harry Calamia, RDC Executive Director. “Four contestants will be selected from our registration rolls to compete head to head. Two winners will then be crowned the So You Think You Can Cook Champions.”
Art Is Life has become one of the quickest growing spring festivals in the area. In addition to the aforementioned stage performances and demonstrations, the family-friendly event will feature numerous fun and recreational activities for children, local food trucks, and the Art Is Life Beer Tent and Wine Bar provided by Sly Fox Brewing Company and Penns Woods Winery. Art Is Life is proudly supported by Lyceum Physical Medicine, 101.1 More FM, East Falls Glassworks and the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers.
