Circadium School of Contemporary Circus is Hosting a Special Valentine’s Day Weekend Show For a Great Cause

Tomorrow’s national and international circus artists and stars are presenting a special performance for Valentine’s Weekend.  On February 10th at 7:30 pm Circadium presents “Heartstrings A Valentine’s Circus Show.”

Circadium’s students and graduates share their circus interpretations of love, romantic comedy, and the emotion and confusion of Valentine’s Day. Acrobatics, aerials, juggling and equilibristics skills combine with dance, theatre, storytelling and spoken word in a one-night-only production. Entrance free is a $20 donation  with proceeds to benefit the Circadium Students’ Foreign Exchange Fund

“Heartstrings is a fun Valentine’s show and a great way for our students to get a chance to perform for local audiences. The show also has a deeper fundraising purpose: All proceeds of this show will go to support a Circadium student trip to France in October. We are bringing a group of 2nd and 3rd year students to an international gathering of circus schools, the FEDEC conference, at the CIRCA Festival in Auch. We hope that you will come out and support them on this journey,” stated Shana Kennedy, Executive Director of Circadium.

For those not familiar with Circadium located at 6452 Greene St., it is the first state-licensed higher education program for circus in the United States. Circus was born in Philadelphia and circus continues to make history in our region! The school is a blend of physical theatre and other art forms with traditional circus practices. The school is a 3 year intensive training program, a charitable organization and a headquarters for circus pioneers.

To add to this unique experience, the show will take place on Circus Campus – inside the former home of St. Madeleine Sophie Church in West Mt. Airy. There is also free parking in the private parking lot on Circus Campus.

Circus Campus is three beautiful green acres including a 30,000 sq/ft converted church and a 10,000 sq/ft mansion. Circus Campus prides itself on being an inclusive movement community and a hub for Circus in Philadelphia. This campus is home to the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts: an all ages recreational school; Circadium: a 3-year, full-time circus program licensed with the state of Pennsylvania; and several artists in residence: Greg Kennedy Studios (Innovative Juggler), Funicular Circus (tight-wire artists), Give & Take (jugglers), Trey Lyford (physical theatre instructor), Rachel Tavani (music instructor), Ralph Lemon (visual artist) and many more.

The performance spaces include a large open sanctuary space with 40-ft ceilings with aerial rigging points throughout, trampoline & tramp-wall; a gymnasium with fully-functional theatrical stage; a dozen office and artist studios; & a variety of improvisational outdoor areas. For the 2022 Fringe Festival Circus Campus will be hosting our VERY FIRST HUB: Circus Campus Presents in the newly renovated theater-space.
