The Dilworth Park transformation continues. As part of our earlier coverage on the city’s $55 million dollar park that occupies the west side of City Hall, we reported that a future ice skating rink will be implemented. Well the time is almost here. On November 14th the city will unveil the all new Rothman Institute Ice Rink.
Measuring 120 ft. long and 60 ft wide, the Rothman Institute Rink will be the approximately the same size as the ice skating rink that occupies Rockefeller Plaza in New York City and will be placed over the existing water fountains. Considering its size, the new rink will hold several hundred skaters at a time and will be open until February 22nd. City officials are hoping that the new center city ice skating rink will act as a magnet to attract more people downtown during the colder months.
For those wondering about the hours of operation, the Rothman Institute Ice Rink will be open Monday – Thursday 3 pm – 9 pm, Fridays 3 pm – 11 pm, Saturdays 11 am – 11 pm, and Sundays 11 am to 8 pm.
Currently there are sections of Dilworth Park that remain closed. However, city officials have confirmed many of these sections including a new lawn area with more benches will open later this week, giving visitors access to about 90% of the park.
