Carbon Copy and Mom Mom’s Kitchen are Teaming-Up to Open a New Spot in Port Richmond
Beers and Polish food anyone? Well, although Port Richmond isn’t a stranger to either, two popular spots are joining forces to give Port Richmond new vibes. West Philly’s Carbon Copy and South Street’s Mom Mom’s Kitchen are collaborating to open a location at 3124 Richmond St. (the former location of The Lunar Inn) slated for a late Spring opening.
Carbon Copy owners Kyle Wolak, Brendon Boudwin, and Bill Braun will be taking care of the beers and libations while Mom Mom’s Kaitlin Wines and Ryan Elmore will be curating the food. The new spot won’t have a special new name in case you were wondering.”We won’t have a different name for the venue. It will be both Carbon Copy and Mom Mom’s Kitchen. Carbon Copy will run the bar program and Mom Mom’s will run the food program,” Brendon states.
Guests can expect a pretty light and casual atmosphere with indoor and outdoor spaces. The drink menu will mirror Carbon Copy’s West Philly location. “We always aim to have a diverse and focused beer list, a few of our own low intervention wines, cider from our friends at Ploughman, a City Wide, a small cocktail menu, and several N/A options,” Brendon described.
As for the food, expect traditional and non-traditional Polish inspired dishes. Mom Mom’s will have four or five different kinds of pierogi (with a rotating special), golabki, kotlet (schnitzel), broiled flounder, grilled kielbasa, zrazy (beef roll ups), liverwurst & onion sandwich, and a few vegetable sides (things like boiled potatoes, beet salad, mizeria, and pickled vegetables). They are also exploring the possibility of burgers, wings, house-made pretzels, cheesy kabanos, pickled herring with Kaplan’s rye bread & horseradish, a plate of imported Polish meats.
So how did this partnership come about? “Our home base in West Philly is a full service restaurant/bar and still relatively new, so we knew going into another space that we wanted to partner with someone to operate the food side of things. They were one of the first to come to mind and we had several other people suggest them. Mom Mom’s previously had a spot right over Bridesburg and they were looking at a space in the neighborhood right before the pandemic, so it’s great that they have a new home here. We started talking about working together towards the end of last year and it seemed like the perfect combo,” Brendon adds.
Although, the move is is new, there are roots in the area as Kaitlin’s actual “Mom-Mom” was raised in the neighborhood and had her first Holy Communion at St Adalbert Church on Allegheny. “Port Richmond was one of the original spaces we were looking to build a brewery. It’s a cool neighborhood that’s growing, but still feels authentic. We love the Richmond Street business corridor and the energy that all the new spots are bringing to it. I’m sure those trolleys will be running any day now right….right?” Brendon adds.
The location will seat about 50 inside with a small outdoor section and hours of operations are not finalized but expect noon – til 10 pm (perhaps 11 pm or 12 am).
“We’re the great-grandkids of Polish (and other European backgrounds) immigrants and we look forward to maintaining the culture of the neighborhood while growing and coming together around beer and food. We’re excited to keep Polish food alive and bring more awareness to the neighborhood. We’re excited to join Czerw’s, Donna’s, M&M Diner, and the amazing Polish delis on Allegheny Ave and pay homage to our old favorites Syrenka, Krakus, and New Wave Cafe. We look forward to being a mainstay on Richmond Street for a long time and we’re excited to join the growing community of businesses,” Ryan of Mom Mom’s stated.
