Barstool Sports Is Opening a Sports Bar in Center City

During the pandemic Barstool’s David Portnoy helped to keep the lights on for many local businesses here in Philly via donations.  Now it looks like El Presidente is opening a place of his own here in Philly.  On Thanksgiving Day Barstool announced via Instagram that ground has been broken” on a new Philadelphia sports bar here in Philly.

The Barstool Sports bar will be located at the old Brickwall Tavern at 1213 Sansom St. but no opening date has been set and although Barstool is heavy on the gambling scene, there will be no better on the premises. Barstool Sports which is backed by Penn National boasts 66 million active monthly users on its sports betting app.  Back in 2020 Penn National Gaming obtain a 36% stake in Barstool with a whopping $163 million payment. The company also plans to open other sports bars including one planned for Chicago.

According to the Inquirer, “A Pennsylvania liquor license application is pending in the name of SBH PHL LLC. Chicago city records show a liquor license application in the name of SBH Chi LLC, doing business as Barstool River North, in the former Henry’s Swing Club. “SBH” likely is the New York-based bar operator Stanton & Bowery Hospitality, whose representatives did not return messages.”
