Deco on the Delaware returns for the fourth year to the gorgeous grounds of the historic Glen Foerd estate, on Saturday, August 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Philadelphia’s premier 1920’s-inspired event, formerly called Jazz Age on the Delaware, brings fashion lovers and vintage enthusiasts together for a day of live music and dancing, lawn games, some friendly competition, and so much more.

With a new name and renewed energy, the beloved Deco on the Delaware will once again take attendees back in time for an escape like no other. John A. Petty, Master of Ceremonies and founder of the Philly Seersucker Vintage Bike Ride & Social, will make sure attendees are excited and have their dancing shoes ready to go. Although not required, 1920’s – 1930’s attire is strongly encouraged – and that’s what makes this event all the better. Attendees can peruse on-site vendors with perfect outfit compliments and accessories, and even try their hand at impressing this year’s fashion judges for thefashion contest! Prizes will be awarded to “Most Dapper Gent” and “Most Fashionable Flapper,” with one runner-up in each category (contestants will be sorted by the gender of their outfit, not the gender of the contestant).

We are very excited to welcome Michael Arenella as the event’s producer,” says Meg Sharp Walton, Executive Director of Glen Foerd.  “As founder of New York City’s famous Jazz Age Lawn Party, the original Prohibition-inspired festival, he brings a lot of expertise to the table. Michael is new to the Philly area, and fell in love with Glen Foerd when here for a visit. Eventually he joined our Board of Directors because of his passion for Glen Foerd’s mission to foster creativity, innovation, and an appreciation of the natural world.

No 1920’s party would be complete without the music – three live bands are playing tunes for all-day dancing on the beautiful Glen Foerd lawn. Michael Arenella and His Dreamland OrchestraDrew Nugent and The Midnight Society, and Queen Esther and Her Quartetare bringing the hot jazz, making dancing irresistible. For even more dancing, don’t miss out on dance performances by The Dreamland Follies and Fishtown Footers dance troupes.

Back by incredibly popular demand is the homemade pie baking contest. Submit a scratch-made pie with your flakiest crust and freshest filling for one of three categories:sweet, savory, and most original. The crowd will even pick (and taste) their favorite as well. For the main course, bring your own meal to be enjoyed as a picnic on the lawn, or choose from one of many picnic-style food and drink packages.

For the re-christening of this special afternoon, Deco on the Delaware, we are taking the party closer to Glen Foerd’s truest source of inspiration: the Delaware River,” says Michael Arenella, new Deco producer, and Glen Foerd board director.  “This summer’s event is refocused upon the Tennis Lawn, originally a man-made pond, at the confluence of the Delaware River and Poquessing Creek. Here, attendees experience a cherished viewscape, which will be not so much backdrop, as nexus of romance and wonderment. Hot Jazz, cold cocktails, and the finest Jazz Age entertainment in the world make Deco on the Delaware a ‘must’ on your social calendar this summer.
Tickets begin at 45 dollars and children under 12 are free.
