Amazon Just Revealed Their List of 20 Potential Cities for HQ2 and Philly Made the Cut!
When Amazon put the word out and solicited proposals for a new city host their second headquarters “HQ2”, the response was overwhelming. Over 230 cities responded to the September announcement. From large markets such as New York down to smaller markets such as Tulsa. It seemed as though everyone in the country was vying to host the new facility which would cost north of $50 billion to create. Of course among those looking to house they new billion dollar project was none other than Philadelphia.
Well it looks as though Amazon was impressed with Philly’s presentation because we made the short list of cities that the global enterprise is considering. The new headquarters is projected to create 50,000 high-paying jobs over the course of 10 to 15 years. According to a recent article by Bloomberg.com, “Amazon’s Great HQ2 Search ignited a reality TV-style competition among governors, mayors and bureaucrats across the U.S. and Canada. Civic boosters didn’t let long odds of success deter them, and the public relations stunts were legion. Birmingham, Alabama, erected a massive Amazon shipping box outside a new hip food hall to announce the city’s bid. The city council in Stonecrest, Georgia, voted to let the ecommerce giant form its own City of Amazon.”
