Adventurous Eater? Sate Kampar is Hosting “Anatomy Eats Dinner” With Fried Pig’s Uterus, Chicken Heart Curry and More

If you’ve been on the search for a more adventurous dinner menu, then you’re in luck. Foodies who always wanted to live out their fantasies as Andrew Zimmern in Bizarre Foods can now make it a reality.  On Tuesday June 20th from 6:30 pm – 8 pm Ange Branca of Saté Kampar will host Anatomy Eats Dinner at Jet Wine Bar (1525 South St.)

Adventurous eaters are invited to indulge in five Malaysian dishes crafted by Branca, each made from a typically under-utilized organ. With each course, Jet Wine Bar’s Jill Weber will share hand-picked wine pairings from across the globe.

Attendees can enjoy cuisines featuring organ meat, also known as ‘offal’ in Eastern cultures, such as Deep-Fried Pig’s Uterus, Chicken Heart Curry, and Beef Spleen, while watching a live pig heart dissection by Dr. Jonathan Reisman M.D., a local internist, pediatrician, writer, and adventure traveler. Tickets are available online for $125/person, and includes food, drink, tax, and gratuity.

Although the dishes served at this event could seem unusual to Philadelphians, organ meat, also known as ‘offal,’ is commonly enjoyed as a snack to accompany alcoholic beverages in many Eastern cultures. Guests can belly up the bar at Jet while enjoying 2.5 oz. pours of global wines that complement five courses showcasing animal organs; including duck feet, chicken heart, pig’s uterus, aorta, and beef spleen, prepared and served by Branca.

“Our initial Malaysian Wine Dinners with Ange Branca of Saté Kampar were so successful, we knew we had to continue the partnership!” said Emily Gordon, General Manager of Jet Wine Bar. “This is a really exciting event for us because it combines two things we’re passionate about — sharing global cuisine that complements our similarly wide-ranging selection of wine, in addition to offering unexpected pairing options to broaden our guests’ palates.”

Dr. Jonathan Reisman M.D. will join Jet Wine Bar to perform a live heart dissection and a book signing. In addition to being an internist and pediatrician, Dr. Reisman is also an author. One of his essays, published in the New York Times, promotes eating every part of the animal and promotes sustainability and the ethics of eating – making him the perfect partner for the event. Guests will have the opportunity to take home a signed copy of Dr. Reisman’s newest book, The Unseen Body: A Doctor’s Journey Through the Hidden Wonders of Human Anatomy for an additional $25.

See below for the five courses that will be served at Jet Wine Bar’s Anatomy Eats Dinner.
