Philly has seen its fair share of restaurant closings in the wake of the pandemic. However, Yelp is painting an even dire picture nationally.
According to a a survey conducted by Yelp, 60% of restaurants that closed during the pandemic will be closed for good.
Yelp stated, “The restaurant industry now reflects the highest total business closures, recently surpassing retail.” Although, many restaurants have tried to adapt to the changes which included take-out, cocktails-to-go and curbside dining, they just couldn’t weather the storm.
Yelp’s findings show that as of “July 10, Yelp found 26,160 total restaurant closures, an increase of 2,179 since June 15.
Of all the closed restaurants in July, 15,770 have permanently closed (60%), accounting for 2,956 more permanent closures” Yelp added that this is a 23% increase since June 15.
With green phases continuing to be pushed back as well as quarantine restrictions reverting throughout the country we very well could see these numbers to continue to soar.
