The Wells Fargo Center is Implementing New Security Technology So Guests Don’t Have to Empty Their Pockets or Bags
The Wells Fargo Center announced today a new partnership with Evolv Technology, which specializes in hands-off security technology in an effort to streamline and speed up the fan security screening process at the arena. “Evolv’s state-of-the-art Evolv Express® screening solution for Flyers games as well as concerts and other touring events at the arena, allowing fans to pass through security in a faster and easier way than ever before. Evolv is the fan screening provider for dozens of sports teams around the country from the NFL, MLB, NHL and MLS, including the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies,” Wells Fargo Center stated.
“The primary focus of our $350+ million Wells Fargo Center Transformation project is to make every moment of our fans’ experience world class, so partnering with an industry leader like Evolv to improve our security process was a no-brainer,” said Valerie Camillo, President and CEO of Spectacor Sports and Entertainment. “Thanks to this new, cutting-edge technology, fans coming to the New Wells Fargo Center will have a much quicker, more seamless security screening process. Most fans will be able to simply walk through the Evolv Express screening area without emptying their pockets or opening their bags, making the security process safer, easier, and faster than ever before.”
According to the announcement, “Evolv Express uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at unprecedented volume and speed. It instantly distinguishes between threats and the everyday items, so people do not need to always empty pockets and bags.” As a result, the majority of fans entering the arena will not have to stop at security. Wells Fargo Center began using Evolv at Flyers hockey games in mid-February. This past season, Wells Fargo Center began permitting bags during Flyers and 76ers games that are larger than 4.5” x 6.5” but smaller than 14”x14”x6,” subject to an x-ray screening. The arena is hopeful that bags of this size will soon no longer need to be individually screened, thanks to the Evolv technology.
“Evolv is thrilled to partner with Wells Fargo Center to help keep Flyers fans safer while making sure they can get into the arena more quickly and in a better, easier manner,” said John Baier, Evolv’s Vice
President of Sports. “With Evolv, fans can enter without the anxiety of being late, accidentally setting off alarms, or the stress of missing valuable playing time on the ice.”
Wells Fargo Center joins a fast-growing roster of sports facilities partnering with Evolv to provide a safer, more fan-friendly experience. Among the many ballparks and stadiums in the sports world using Evolv’s technology are the National Football League’s SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio from Major League Soccer.
The New Wells Fargo Center’s $350+ million Transformation project is completely privately funded, and it is one of the most significant arena projects anywhere in the world. Everything but the foundation steel and concrete has been completely re-imagined, and this summer, the project will conclude with a transformation of the Event Level and the arena’s exterior. The New Wells Fargo Center is a direct, private investment in the Stadium District and an anchor for the broader revitalization of South Philadelphia.
