Former Eagle Malcolm Jenkins Got Hired by CNN!
On the field former Eagles safety was a captain. He was in charge of communicating not only with the defense but with the team as a whole. Now Malcolm Jenkins will be taking his communication skills to the media as CNN’s newest contributor.
However, don’t expect football hot takes or highlight recaps. Instead Malcolm will be speaking on social issues particularly those pertaining to racism and social justice.
“Now more than ever, the public needs to be educated on the roles of elected positions of power, such as the District Attorney, Police Chief or City Council and how to hold those individuals accountable, especially through their voice and their vote. In an important election year, I’m eager to join the CNN family and share my perspective as a regular contributor,” Jenkins said in a statement. ” I also want to thank CNN for their thoughtful leadership in viewing professional athletes beyond their sport as another educated voice who brings a varied perspective and value to the network’s programming and shows.”
Jenkins and CNN’s relationship has been ongoing. In the past he’s contributed op-ed pieces on CNN.com as well as other media outlets such as The New York Times and Washington Post.
As we know here in Philly, Jenkins’ passion for community outreach runs deep. Back in 2010, Jenkins founded The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, a non-profit organization centered on helping young people, particularly those in under-served communities in New Orleans, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In addition to the Saints, he has played for the Philadelphia Eagles.
When it’s all said and done, Malcolm Jenkins’ legacy will reach far beyond the grid iron. The two Super Bowl rings that he earned seem to pale in comparison to the hearts he’s championed throughout his career.
