Chef Dave Piescik of Modo Mio is Now Creating Amazing Italian Dishes at the All-New Mangia Macaroni!
If you’re a seasoned foodie that ventured out in the Fishtown/Old Kensington area then chances are that you had some bomb dishes at the now defunct Modo Mio. With close to 500 Yelp reviews giving it an average of 4 stars, Peter McAndrews’ Modo Mio was one of the city’s hottest Italian restaurants in Philly. Chef Dave Piescik who worked under Peter McAndrews is now back in the kitchen plating at the all-new Mangia Macaroni located at 1543 Spring Garden.
The name is a throwback to old world Italy “meaning pasta eaters.” This was at a time when folks ate pasta with their hands. There is plenty of artwork throughout the venue to provide the cool old school visuals. The concept of Mangia Macaroni is fast casual Italian food without compromising on taste or portions. For $10-$12 expect large portions of amazing pasta dishes that include house made bread and salad. Pretty much the best deal you can get for this type of quality Italian food.
Everything is house made and prepared daily. From the bread, to the pasta, to the gravy, Chef Dave knows a thing or tow about freshness. He’s now looking to bring back his A-game to make sure customers keep coming back.
The menu at Mangia Macaroni features seven signature pasta entrees that include Mushroom Agnolotti, Baked Macaroni, Tagliatelle Primavera, Linguini Scampi, Gnocchi, Butternut Squash Cannelloni, and Ravioli Pomodoro. However, if you are having a tough time deciding Mangia Macaroni also offers pasta flights with samples of three pastas on one plate. For those looking for an even more hands-on experience, there’s even an option to create your own pasta with your choice of pasta, sauce/gravy, and protein.
If you’re more of a DIY person, Mangia Macaroni also has a small market section where you can purchase packaged pasta, sauces, gravy and prepared frozen lasagna and pasta.
However, not everything here is made for folks on-the-go. Upstairs you’ll find an intimate dining space that is also BYOB. That’s right you can enjoy top quality Italian dishes at a great price while bringing your own wine. Talk about the perfect date night.
So the next time the craving for Italian food starts to hit you, definitely give this place a try. Wether it’s for take out or dining in, you’ll definitely be chowing down on some great Italian food here (utensils are optional).
