The Slider Co. is Opening a Pop-up Location at The Luxe and the First 100 Guests Will Receive a Free Slider

Starting July 11th at 4 pm. The Slider Co. will host a three-month pop-up in the outdoor courtyard in front of The Luxe at 1705 North American Street and the first 100 guests will receive a complimentary slider.

Owned and operated by William Johnson and Anesha Garrett, the duo originally started the DE Slider Co. back in 2001 in Wilmington, DE. Now they are returning to their roots in Philadelphia with the launch of The Slider Co.

“The sky is the limit for how far we see The Slider Co. going,” said Johnson. “Our goal is to become a nationwide brand and open locations all over the country. But for now, we are thrilled to be popping up in our hometown of Philadelphia to show the sandwich capital of America what we’re all about.”

Johnson began his culinary journey as a dishwasher, and was shucking oysters by the age of 15. He later worked under chef Christopher Todd for five years at Christopher’s and Fourchette 110 in Wayne, PA. Johnson eventually became the opening chef at World Café Live before launching his own catering company, Mia & Me Catering, which is named after his daughter, Temia, in 2011.

Garrett, with a 22-year career in healthcare, began baking as a hobby for bridal and baby showers. In 2013, she earned her pastry chef certification from the Star Institute in Northeast Philadelphia and went on to launch Sugar Bouppies, a pastry business named after the childhood nickname given to her by her grandmother.

Johnson and Garrett met in 2016 and began traveling together — Johnson has visited 43 countries, with Garrett accompanying him on several trips for culinary inspiration. Today, the two share kitchen duties, while Johnson also oversees operations and Garrett manages the company’s finances.

As for opening day, the first 100 guests will receive a complimentary choice between the Fat Mama Cheeseburger (Angus beef patty, sharp cheddar, house pickles, baby greens, red onion, tomato, and tarragon-Russian dressing) and The Kitchen Sink, (a vegan crispy quinoa patty, vegetable ceviche, baby greens, black bean-sriracha sauce, and avocado purée, served on a sweet potato bun). The pop-up will also feature additional sliders, house-made sides, drinks, and cookies.

The Slider Co.’s best-selling menu items include the “95 South” (buttermilk fried chicken on cornbread), the “Fat Mama Cheeseburger,” and the vegan “Kitchen Sink.” The pop-up’s operating hours are Thursday and Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
