SEPTA Extends 24 Hour Weekend Subway & El Service to Nov. 2nd
In a move in the right direction SEPTA has decided to extend their 24 hour weekend subway and El service through November 2nd. The 24 hour service was launched as a pilot program to gauge the ridership during the summer months. It turns out that SEPTA experienced an increase of 50% on both lines during this program which was a factor in the extension. SEPTA is now looking to gauge the fall ridership for the 24 hour weekend service to see if the program will be extended beyond November 2nd.
Night Owl buses continued to run even with the 24 hour service and according to SEPTA Night Owl buses will continue to operate as normal through the extension. As you may recall SEPTA has dealt with its fair share of financial woes and SEPTA officials are optimistic that the 24 hour weekend service program could offset some operating costs.
We will keep you updated if the program is extended beyond the November 2nd deadline.
