WWE Taps Philly-Based DJ Ghost to be Their Official DJ for Wrestlemania
You don’t have to be a wrestling fan to know that Wrestlemania will be coming to Philly April 6-7th. Taking place in Lincoln Financial Field, this annual event is essentially the Super Bowl of wrestling and the world’s largest professional wrestling promotion. So when the WWE need to curate their sounds for the biggest stage, they tapped Philly-based Josh “DJ Ghost” Barrett to be their official DJ.
If the name rings a bell, it’s because Ghost is also the official DJ of the Philadelphia 76ers, so if you attended a game, then you’re already familiar with his sets. So how did the 6ers’ DJ end up with this gig? “WWE reached out to me personally to ask if I’d be interested in opening Wrestlemania both nights while they were in Philly,” states Ghost.
What started out as a 15 year old kid DJing in his family’s basement bar now has spawned into a career involving two of the biggest sports entities in the world. So what is Ghost looking forward to the most considering he’s DJ’d some of the 76ers biggest games? “I use to watch wrestling with my grandfather every week. He was a big fan. I think getting to DJ in front of 75,000 people especially a wrestling crowd is going to be unmatched. Getting to reach a whole new audience base and doing something out of my norm is going to be exciting. WWE is a massive global brand. Working with them itself is a great opportunity,” he adds.
Aside form DJing Wrestlemania Ghost also looks forward to checking out the matches, “They all look to be good but Reigns vs Rhodes is the one we are all waiting for,” Ghost states.
So what’s next aside from Wrestlemania for his career? Well, the chance to bring home his own belt to Philly is on DJ Ghost’s horizon. “I’ve been nominated for Mixshow DJ of the Year in Miami March 22nd. I’ll be representing Q102 and the city of Philadelphia. I need everyone to help vote so I can bring home the belt before Wrestlemania,” adds Ghost. Voting link is in Ghost’s IG Bio.
