The Women-owned Colombian bakery, Cafe Tinto will be spicing up the Fishtown breakfast scene soon. The North Philadelphia-based bakery that specializes in fresh baked goods primarily operates as a take-out spot. Now, owner Giselle Poveda and partner/chef Daniela Garcia are opening a second location at 1701 N. Front Street that is slated to open summer 2025.
Known for its authenticity and staying true to their “South American experience with a Colombian soul,” Giselle adds “It’s a celebration of our roots and a bold step towards the future. This new chapter represents growth for not only Cafe Tinto but for our community and Colombian culture here in Philly. We’re excited to bring our flavors, our stories, and our passion to a new neighborhood.”
The new location will have seating for 14 seats inside and will look to provide an additional 15 on the outside when the weather permits. As for the menu, “We are keeping our Colombian tradition and adding a little bit of an American breakfast twist: Huevos Bonodict, our take on the traditional Eggs Benedict but instead of an English muffin, will be our gluten free Pandebono,” Giselle stated.
As for what the duo is looking forward to the most about their expansion, “Our roots are established in the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Hunting Park/Feltonville since the year of 2008. Throughout the years we have become a Latin staple in our community. Coming to the neighborhood of Fishtown was a long lived dream and we are happy to make that a reality. Café Tinto Fishtown will serve as a vibrant community space where neighbors can grab a fast yet elaborated-from-scratch, delicious breakfast options, organic Colombian coffee, fresh natural juices and a cozy Mercadito for quick pantry refills. We can’t wait to be your new go-to spot,” Giselle stated excitedly.
Both Giselle and Daniella worked hand-in-hand with both interior designers and architects to make this dream a reality, adding, “We worked with interior designer RJ, from Lowercase Design who then brought on Architect Steven Bobev from Strobe Architecture Studio. It has been a pleasure to work with both.”
