Wildwood Mayor is Appealing Gov. Murphy’s Executive Order to Close Indoor Dining!
Just yesterday City health commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley cited going to the shore as one of the causes of Philly’s spike in COVID-19 cases. Now it looks like Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron is looking to keep enticing visitors to the beach town by keeping restaurants open for indoor dining.
In a recent move, Mayor Byron appealed New Jersey Gov. Philly Murphy’s executive order to close indoor dining. Mayor Byron says that the ban on indoor dining is crippling the restaurant industry and will be a “knockout punch” if it continues.
Mayor Byron stated, “The governor’s decision to postpone indoor dining cripples the recovery efforts of restaurants and will likely be a knockout punch for numerous local establishments. Being the most critical time for our short seasonal economy, I believe it is imperative to return to restricted indoor dining without any further delay.”
As with Philly, New Jersey’s indoor dining was set to open this week. However, with recent surges of COVID-19 cases both states decided to postpone.
As far as New Jersey Governor’s feelings toward to the prolonged ban on indoor dining he stated, “Overcrowding. A complete disregard for social distancing. Very few, if any, face coverings. The scenes we see in our newspapers and on social media cannot continue.”
Mayor Byron believes that Wildwood restaurants would obey every social distancing precaution and guidelines if given the chance to open. This includes limited seating. “Obviously there are always people who ignore the rules and common sense even if it jeopardizes public health,. But, the actions of a few, shouldn’t cause such great harm to the majority of responsible businesses. I appeal to the governor to resume indoor dining as previously planned and give businesses and employees the opportunity to save their livelihoods.”
