Who Wants to Party? The Mummers are Hosting a Mardi Gras Festival This Weekend!
It doesn’t have to be a Super Bowl parade or New Year’s Day to get the Mummers out and celebrating. One of Philly’s longest traditions is bringing a piece of New Orleans here to the city of Brotherly Love. This Saturday February 23rd, The Mummers will be hosting a Mardi Gras Festival at 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia (2300 S Swanson St,) from 1-5 pm.
Since 2014, Mummers Mardi Gras has celebrated and raised over $100,000 for the long-standing tradition of Philadelphia mummery. Working exclusively with the Philadelphia Mummers String Bands, this effort has entertained thousands with the signature sounds and pageantry of Philly’s string bands.
Traditionally, the event had taken place on Main Street in Manayunk, drawing 15,000 people each year but the party has moved to South Philly, the birthplace of The Mummers!
The daylong festival will feature stage performances and live music inside and out from Philadelphia Mummers String Bands. The day will also include family friendly activities including photo opportunities with costumes and props, a variety of vendors, giveaways, authentic Philly food trucks and much more!
