The Philadelphia Water Department is Extending Shut Off Bans Until April 2022!
The Philadelphia Water Department has announced that they will extend the ban on shut offs until April 2022. This would be a one year extension. The extension is to help in relief to customers experiencing financial hardships such as job loss, loss of family members and medical emergencies during the the pandemic.
Customers that have enrolled in PWD’s Senior Discount Program or Tiered Assistance Program will not be penalized for overdue bills until April 2022. All other customers not enrolled will be penalized for late bills beginning in May. Bills that continue to be delinquent will be subject to collection agencies starting in August of this year.
Customers enrolled in the Tiered Assistance Program, may able to obtain discounted rates as well as unpaid water bills removed from collections. PWD is strongly encouraging all customers experiencing financial hardships to apply for financial assistance which can include lower payments and other arrangements.
If for any reason a customer applies for financial assistance and does not qualify, PWD may still offer lower payment options as well as extended time to catch up on their overdue bills.
