The Landmark Macy’s in Center City Will be Closing Its Doors For Good Later This Year
Center City’s most iconic store is closing its doors for good this year. According to a recent press release sent Thursday which was followed by a press conference by city officials.
If you remember, last year the company closed nearly 150 stores which put the Center City location in question. According to Fox29, “This past fall, Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. questioned whether Macy’s was giving up its lease, saying he first heard about a potential closure late in 2023 after a store security guard was fatally stabbed on the job.”
Known for its organ and Christmas light show along with Dickens Village, Macy’s has been a destination for more than just shopping. It’s even been featured in movies including the classic film 12 Monkeys.
Macy’s has said the closures would allow them to focus their resources on their remaining locations. The Philadelphia closure was one of a total of 66 announced by Macy’s on Thursday. The location in the Exton Square Mall was also listed among the closing stores.
