The Feminist Flea Market & Craft Fair is Going Virtual For The Holidays!
Even though typical holiday shopping can’t happen this year, you can still do your 2020 shopping and support local businesses at the Feminist Flea Market & Craft Fair! This time, you’ll just be shopping from the comfort of your own home. Feminist Flea will be launching their first Virtual Marketplace on Small Business Saturday, November 28th, and will leave it open for the rest of the weekend. Their curated marketplace will feature over 75 artists who are marginalized by gender, including women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming folks.
House Cat carefully curates the market to highlight the beautifully diverse identities and works of local artists and businesses. You can expect everything from vintage clothing to handmade jewelry, homemade beauty products, vegan treats and much more. Just some of the vendors who will be there include vintage and streetwear clothing shop Point Blank Limited, thoughtfully formulated and hand made luxury Asian beauty skincare line Sabbatical Beauty, succulents and cacti pop-up plant stand Cactus Cart, small medicinal herb farm Oma Herbal Teas, sustainable jewelry and homeware brand Noir + Soul and vegan bakery with an emphasis on social justice Crust Vegan Bakery.
While you shop, vendors will also be going live on their Instagram pages and doing booth / studio tours, process videos, workshops and more. Vendors are getting creative with it – you can expect a hot sauce challenge, fashion show, printmaking tutorial, conversation about QTPOC mental health, learning session on tinctures, basic knitting and crochet tutorial and a how to on dry and press flowers, just to name a few.
Due to COVID, House Cat wanted to find a way for people to safely support many vendors at once, and ideally get all of their holiday shopping done in one day! So, they will be providing a Curbside Pick-Up option at Underground Arts on Saturday, December 5th. Shoppers will be able to order from multiple vendors through the Virtual Marketplace and then go to Underground Arts to pick up their orders all at once, and without paying any shipping fees!
When picking up your online shopping purchases, you can also get some food and drinks to-go! Feminist Flea teamed up with Philly’s amazing all-vegan grocer/convenience store V Marks the Shop to create a special Vegan Pop-up Kitchen. Chambi’s, Jennifer Zavala, Lil’ Yenta’s and Naturally Sweet Desserts will be providing the vegan eats and Triple Bottom Brewing will be supplying the beer alongside the Underground Arts’ bartenders, who will be whipping up some specialty cocktails. The vegan menu items as well as all drink specials will be available for pre-order during the Feminist Flea Virtual Marketplace, and 10% of food sales will be donated to the community fridges.
To shop, there’s a $3+ suggested “entry fee”, with 100% of proceeds being split between four Philly community fridges – Germantown Community Fridge, Mama-Tee Fridge, The People’s Fridge and Philadelphia Community Fridge. For every $3 you give, you will be entered into a raffle of your choosing. Raffle items have been donated by many of the Feminist Flea vendors, and will be posted on the Virtual Marketplace during the online event. At the last market, the community raised $6,000, and Feminist Flea is hoping to hit that goal again! Your donation will help keep the fridges running and will go toward supplying the fridges with fresh food, kitchen supplies, general maintenance and more.
House Cat hopes to continue to grow this community of feminist makers and create spaces of support, care and connection for vendors and attendees alike, even when we can’t all be physically together.
Feminist Flea Market & Craft Fair’s Virtual Marketplace will be open November 28th and 29th at www.feministflea.com, with a Curbside Pick-up & Vegan Pop-up Kitchen on Saturday, December 5th, 11AM-6PM, at Underground Arts (1200 Callowhill St, Philadelphia, PA 19107).
