The Delaware Waterfront is Celebrating Independence Day Weekend With Plenty of Music, Food and Yoga
The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) has planned an exciting lineup of Summer events and activities leading up to and throughout Independence Day Weekend with concerts, markets, art exhibits, roller skating, the Wellness on the Waterfront yoga series presented by Independence Blue Cross, great eats, and more!
“With restrictions lifted, we’re thrilled to be once again working with so many wonderful partners to bring an exciting lineup of free activities to the Waterfront this summer, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and Chill Moody concerts thanks to Wawa Welcome America and the return of Yoga on the Pier courtesy of Independence Blue Cross,” said Joe Forkin, DRWC President.
Thanks to Independence Blue Cross (IBX), Yoga on the Pier returns on July 5th with a full schedule. This year, DRWC and IBX are thrilled to partner with Queen Village’s Three Queens Yoga studio to provide yoga classes three days a week with their seasoned instructors. Music at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing kicks off with an exciting lineup including The Philadelphia Orchestra ensemble performance Let Freedom Ring, followed by The Chill Moody Experience, as a part of Wawa Welcome America.
On Friday June 25th from 7pm -10pm, join musicians of The Philadelphia Orchestra for Let Freedom Ring, a musical celebration featuring patriotic and uplifting works that celebrate the diversity and majesty of America. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at Penn’s Landing. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and beverages.
On Saturday June 26 from 3pm – 9pm, Chill Moody and Rotation Records connect again to present The Chill Moody Music Stage. An evening spotlighting some of Philly’s brightest rising stars curated by Philadelphia Music Ambassador, HipHop Artist/Entrepreneur Chill Moody.
On Sunday, June 27, from 10 am – 5 pm shop vintage and artisan vendors at Liberty Flea Market at Cherry Street Pier. Enjoy a collection of unique vendors from the Philadelphia area.
Also for First Friday on July 2nd at Cherry Street Pier, our resident artists will be displaying their work in their studio spaces from 5pm – 9pm. The Artist and Artisans Market will feature Bee Our Guest – Beeswax Wraps, Caren4urAir, Growies Planters, Focal Points, Alina Nicole Design, Inspiration Beads, Eithar, Joan Ramone, Consequential Flowers, 4&7, Root and Rocks, Creations by Nsia, Trinas jabones, Get LIT Candles PHL. Family Arts Night, will be hosted by Portside Arts Center from 6:30pm-8pm. For $20 per family guests of all ages can enjoy a fun and creative night out with the entire family. During this 1.5 hour long workshop parents and kids will collaborate on art projects and work together to create something everyone can be proud of. Friday will also mark the opening of Fleisher Art Memorial’s annual student and faculty exhibition as well as the On the Rise exhibition featuring creative designs from the rising stars of the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This annual exhibition features current and past designs from the winners of the Philadelphia Emerging Architect (PEA) Prize and Young Architect (YA) Prize.
At Spruce Street Harbor Park, kick-back in a colorful hammock, under a canopy of trees, draped in technicolored lights. A time-honored tradition, enjoy local brews and Summer cocktails on The Barge Oasis as you soak in the sweeping views of the Delaware River. Plus, enjoy food and drinks from Philly eateries such as French Toast Bites, Chickie’s & Pete’s, Philly Taco, Frozen Delights, and Dre’s Water Ice and Ice Cream. Enjoy our special Makers Market featuring custom creations on Saturday, June 26, from 11 am – 4 pm. The Makers Market recurs every Saturday through July.
The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is not producing fireworks on Independence Weekend or Independence Day. Spruce Street Harbor Park, Cherry Street Pier, and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest will all be closing in time for everyone to get to the parkway to watch Philadelphia’s 4th of July fireworks on the Ben Franklin Parkway which will begin at 9:30 PM, as part of Wawa Welcome America.
