The City is Hosting a Free Gaming Expo This Weekend Featuring Tournaments, Panels, Board Games and More
The city has seen significant growth over the last decade in sectors such as real estate, finance, hospitality, healthcare, and tech. Gaming is the latest industry that has witnessed noticeable growth in the last few years. Similar to music and film, which at one point had high barriers of entry, technology has helped break through those barriers and birthed an exciting new marketplace of independent creators. Gaming has proved to be a viable business and a lucrative one for both developers and players. Philadelphia has become a city that has attracted major investment capital for new esports complexes, virtual reality centers, internet cafés, and gaming bars, and restaurants.
In efforts to highlight the community of innovators in gaming, the city is supporting the first official gaming event led by Council member Isaiah Thomas and JumpButton Studio. The inaugural PHL Gaming expo will take place Saturday, February 25th from 12 pm-7 pm and admission is free. The Gaming Expo will take place across two locations simultaneously, highlighting the world of digital and the world of tabletop gaming.
The digital expo will highlight some of the city’s best game developers, industry panelists, community leaders, and of course gamers in PC, console, and mobile markets. The Digital Experience is hosted at the popular LocalHost Esports venue (401 North Broad St.). Guests will get to play, learn, and engage with top professionals in Philly. Registration is available here.
The tabletop expo will take place at the P4Hub (537 Wayne Avenue #Ste 202) and will be a fun-filled event for all ages. Guests can partake in board games as well as enjoy a local designer showcase featuring board games made in Philadelphia as well as a Pocket Spades tournament hosted by T-Boyz Table Games. There will also have open play hosted by the city’s best board game cafés. Registration is available here.
