Philly Non-Profit Organization, The Block Gives Back is hosting the 5th Annual Peace and Play Day
The Block Gives Back is a non-profit organization located in Philadelphia. Their mission is to “promote community involvement and engagement throughout Philadelphia, by targeting issues within the community and devising a plan to recruit local volunteers, businesses, organizations, and community leaders to help us in working toward a solution.” As we all know, violence has become a prominent issue throughout our city. In 2021, gun violence in Philadelphia reached an all-time high– leaving 562 bodies in its wake. Unfortunately, 200 of those victims were innocent children, and almost half of those murders took place in Philadelphia parks and rec centers.
The founders of The Block Gives Back believe that parks should be a safe haven for children to play and be themselves. In order to build community relationships, and combat the severe violence throughout our city, The Block Gives Back will be hosting their 5th annual “Peace & Play Day” on July 16th, at Scanlon Playground (near K St. and E. Venango), from 11:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. During this time, there will be food, drinks, a DJ, live entertainment, and more. The main objective of this event is to mend differences, inspire the youth, and make the parks in our community a safe place for all— while still having fun.
