DESCRIPTION:The Soapbox Community Print Shop is thrilled to announce the Philly Zine Fest\, happening on November 9\, 2024 at Temple University’s Mitten Hall. \nZines (pronounced “zeens”\, short for “magazines”) are hand made\, self published books embracing a do-it-yourself asthetic focusing more on expressing the views of the creator than making a profit. Covering topics ranging from the personal to the political\, and everything in between\, zine-making is a thriving community in Philadelphia. This year’s event will be the biggest Philly Zine Fest in the event’s 22 year history\, featuring over 150 exhibitors displaying\, selling\, and trading zines. \nThere will be a free zine making station where exhibitors and attendees can make their own zines using various collage and drawing tools\, a laser printer\, a mimeograph machine\, and typewriters borrowed from the South Philly-based typewriter repair shop Philly Typewriter! \nThe 2024 Philly Zine Fest Anthology will debut at the event. This printed zine features work from various exhibitors of the zine fest. The anthology is black and white and features comics\, art\, drawings\, prose\, poetry\, and photography\, and will be available for free while supplies last. \nLast but not least is the return of the Philly Zine Fest Free Zine Box outside Mitten Hall on Broad Street. Take a zine\, leave a zine\, let the free flow of information commence! \nFree for all attendees\, anyone interested in art\, local subcultures\, and printed media will find many works of interest and creators to interact with.
