Morris Animal Refuge is Hosting a “Howl-O-Ween” Pet Costume Contest at The Bourse!
The Bourse, Philadelphia’s modern artisanal food hall on Independence Mall, is teaming up with Morris Animal Refuge, America’s first animal shelter, to host an outdoor family-friendly fall fest, featuring a pet costume contest, photo opportunities, treats for two-legged and four-legged attendees, prizes, music, and more on Saturday, October 24 from 1-3 pm.
The Bourse and Morris Animal Refuge invite Philadelphians and their furry friends to the food hall’s 5th st. patio for the ultimate fall fashion show. Tickets are $10 and include pet entry into the contest, a strut down the red carpet, plus one fall-themed photo of pets in their Howl-o-ween best. For those unable to attend the event but would still like to participate, there is an option to submit photos virtually via Instagram or Facebook. Virtual tickets include a hashtag and tag-able accounts needed in order to be entered into the contest. All proceeds from tickets sales will benefit Morris Animal Refuge and can be purchased here.
“We’re so excited to partner with our friends at Morris Animal Refuge for what is sure to be one doggone fun afternoon,” said Hannah Magann, The Bourse Food Hall Events and Marketing Manager. “Halloween will probably look a bit different this year, so we wanted to provide a safe alternative for all to enjoy – human and non-human.”
A panel of esteemed judges will determine winners in the following categories: Best Overall, Best Philly “Jawn” and Best Team Costume (can be two pets or owner/pet, etc.) Winners in each category will receive a prize and trophy.
Freebyrd Chicken will be operating a pop-up bar outside with a bevy of beverages, including Kickin’ Iced Tea Cocktail ($7), hard seltzers ($6), hard cider ($5) and Miller Lite ($4), while Piggyback Treats Company will be on-site with sustainably crafted goodies for pets.
Additionally, there will be a silent auction benefitting Morris Animal Refuge with treats for owners and their pets, including a dog gift basket from The Bourse and a Holiday Light Tour Private Party from Founding Footsteps, who’s setting up shop in The Bourse for the remainder of the year.
To ensure the safety of all attendees, The Bourse and Morris Animal Refuge will be strictly following local and state guidelines. Social distancing markers will make certain all guests remain six feet apart. Masks are required at all times. Hand sanitizer and additional cleaning materials will be supplied for guests’ convenience and safety.
This is an outdoor-only event. Pets are not permitted inside The Bourse Food Hall.
“We are so excited and thankful to be partnering with The Bourse Food Hall for this fun fall fundraising event for the whole family (including our furry family)” said Sarah Meding, Morris Animal Refuge Special Events and Development Coordinator. “We have such a great team working together to make sure this event is exciting, memorable, and safe. And we can’t wait to see all of your pups in their HOWL-o-ween best on October 24th.”
