Morris Animal Refuge Hosts 20th Annual Fur Ball Gala
March 30th, 2017 – The Morris Animal Refuge, America’s First Animal Shelter, is pleased to announce that the 20 th Annual Fur Ball will be held on Saturday, April 1 st, from 8pm – midnight. The yearly celebration is the refuge’s single largest fundraiser. For the 20 th Annual Fur Ball, funds will help Morris Animal Refuge update its shelter to better care for Philadelphia’s homeless animals. This year’s theme, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, encourages guests to explore the wonders of the deep at The Independence Seaport Museum (211 South Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19106).
Hosted by Mike Ruiz, notable photographer, director and pitbull advocate, and emceed by Steve Morrison of WMMR’s Preston and Steve, the event will also recognize outstanding members of the Morris Animal Refuge community. Lucy Noland, co-anchor of the FOX 29 News, will receive the 2016 Elizabeth Morris Award in honor of George Bengal. The King of Prussia Mall will be receiving this year’s Grace Labouchere Award for Corporate Humane Awareness. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet adoptable puppies at the event.
“We look forward to the Fur Ball year after year because it’s like no other event in the city,” said Lewis Checchia, Executive Director of Morris Animal Refuge. “Animal overs of all kinds get together to celebrate our four-legged friends in our biggest fundraiser.”
Between dinner and dancing, photo ops with King Neptune and a mermaid, guests will be able to adopt dogs and cats virtually throughout the evening, as well as take a look at the many amazing silent auction and raffle prizes. Morris Animal Refuge is also selling 50/50 tickets to further benefit the shelter.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will not only support America’s first animal shelter with vital programs including the Lifesaver Fund, the Fostering Program, the Adoption Program, and the Low Cost Spay & Neuter Program, but will also fund much needed renovations. These renovations include an updated surgical suite, creating a lobby that allows for the separation of animals entering the Refuge from those being adopted, constructing a roaming cat room to better socialize our feline friends, and designating a larger adoption area for animal lovers to spend some quality time with a cat or dog before taking him or her home.
The Morris Animal Refuge’s 19 th Annual Fur Ball will take place on Saturday, April1st , from 8pm to 12pm at the Independence Seaport Museum. Tickets cost $130 per person, and are available online. For more information or to purchase tickets to
