James Beard Winning Chef From New Orleans Is Bringing the Big Easy to Wm. Mulherin’s Sons For a Charitable Cause!
Get ready because the an authentic taste of New Orleans is coming to Philly. On Wednesday July 7th James Beard award winning Executive Chef Sue Zemanick will be coming to Wm. Mulherin’s Sons (1355 N Front St.) for “The Big Easy under the El,” which will help raise money for a local charity.
Wm. Mulherin’s Sons’ Chef Burke was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2020. When Chef Sue (a friend from the Best New Chef Food & Wine class of 2008) heard the news, she wanted to support Chef Burke’s fundraising efforts created by his wife Kristina, known as Tag Time, which benefit the LUNGevity Foundation, a private provider of research funding for lung cancer.
This led to the creation of The Big Easy under the El, a special dinner from Chef Sue, owner of Zasu, a Southern inspired restaurant located in the heart of New Orleans, who will be bringing a little bit of NOLA to Fishtown for an immersive Southern experience at Wm. Mulherin’s Sons for one night only, where a portion of the proceeds will benefit Tag Time. Dinner is $75 per person, optional beverage tasting available as an add-on.
Tasting menu includes:
- Roasted Oyster – garlic and parmigiano
- Corn Beignets – spicy remoulade
- Spicy Pickled Gulf Shrimp – heirloom tomatoes, charred okra
- Buttermilk Fried Chicken – andouille gumbo, creole potato salad
- Lemon Ice-Box Pie – blueberry compote, whipped cream
Dinner is 5-10 pm and this is a ticketed event with limited availability. Dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated for this event. Click here to purchase.
