Is Will Smith Remaking a Disney Classic?
There’s no doubt that West Philly-Native Will Smith is talented but does he have what it takes to play one of Disney’s most iconic characters? According to Deadline.com, Disney is eyeing the Fresh Prince star to play the title character in a live action version of Dumbo. Yes, you read that correctly, Disney wants him to play a flying elephant.
Tim Burton has already been tapped to direct the remake of the 1941 movie about a young elephant that bullied because of his big ears. Burton’s last live-action Disney adaptation, Alice in Wonderland, grossed a hefty $1.02 billion worldwide.
Dumbo is just one of the eighteen animated classics that Disney is turning into a live action movie. Over the past few years, Disney has seen box office success with live action versions of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent and The Jungle Book. A highly anticipated live-action version of Beauty and the Beast is due out this March.
