It’s a packed summer for the world of soccer, with the European Championships and Copa America taking place at the same time. However, thanks to local soccer kit company Icarus Football and organizers CASA Soccer League, Philly soccer fans have a big event of their own to look forward to because the Icarus Cup, the custom kit brand’s flagship tournament, is returning to Philly for the 4th time at Vidas Athletic Complex in West Philly, July 13th.  This one-of-a-kind tournament fuses soccer with food festival for the ultimate summer time event.

Featuring 80 teams and over 200 games, “the Icarus Cup is an event built in the image of the best grassroots football communities Icarus has worked with. This, in short, means the actual playing is just one attraction, along with music, parties, and of course, beautiful football jerseys. Icarus’ specialty is making custom kits inspired by the history and culture of the teams they partner with, so their design team runs a so-called ‘design gauntlet’ every year to create 80 unique kits for all the teams attending,” states Icarus Founder and Creative Director, Rob Smukler.

Icarus & CASA’s ‘festival of soccer’ always plays host to grassroots teams from throughout the country (and the world), but this year more than ever, Icarus is bringing the world to Philly, by designing all 80 kits in the image of interesting places around the world. This cultural blending of Philly and global culture extends beyond the soccer pitch too, with food from local spots like Gilda, Saami Somi, Down North, Paffuto and La Chinesca keeping players and fans alike well looked after. La Chinesca is also running a beer garden with drinks from Carbon Copy, Kenwood, and BrewDog keeping the festival atmosphere bubbling over.

This year, the Icarus Cup will have multiple Open, Coed, and Women’s Inclusive divisions, along with a new Over-30s Open division, making the 2024 Icarus Cup the most inclusive iteration of the tournament yet. While team registration is almost sold out, individual players without a team can still sign up as a “free agent” and be assigned to a team. Every team receives custom jerseys and each match is officiated by professional referees

Even those with no intention of playing are encouraged to come through to enjoy (and add to) the tournament atmosphere, grab some drinks, and cheer teams on from the sidelines.
