Hey Whiskey Lovers, Twisted Tail is Launching a New Summer Whiskey Series With Meet & Greets and Exclusive Cocktails
If you love whiskey then keep reading because the Twisted Tail (509 S. 2nd St.) just announced its Summer Whiskey Series. The series will include monthly programming from May through August celebrating brown spirits with educational social hours, exclusive cocktails, meet + greets with brand ambassadors, and more. The series kicks off ahead of World Whiskey Day (May 20) on Friday, May 19 from 5-7 pm with a “Smoke & Sip” social hour in collaboration with Angel’s Envy.
Leading up to The Twisted Tail’s ninth annual Whiskey Bonanza in September, one of Philadelphia’s largest whiskey tasting events featuring over 100 whiskeys in celebration of Bourbon Heritage Month, the Society Hill bar and restaurant is honoring brown spirits this spring and summer with ticketless pay-as-you-go monthly events and social hours in collaboration with popular brands such as Angel’s Envy, Maker’s Mark, Laphroaig, and more. Each event will take place on or ahead of the following summer whiskey holidays:
- World Whiskey Day // “Smoke & Sip” with Angel’s Envy, Friday, May 19, 5-7 pm
- National Bourbon Day // “Dip & Sip” with Maker’s Mark, Wednesday, June 14, 5-7 pm
- National Scotch Day // Laphroaig, Thursday, July 27, 5-7 pm // More details to come
- National Whiskey Sour Day // $8 whiskey sours all night, Friday, August 25, 4pm to close
“People don’t tend to think of whiskey as a summer spirit, but we’re here to prove to everyone that it most definitely belongs in your summer sipping rotation,” said Codi Bixler, Co-Owner of The Twisted Tail. “We’re excited to partner with some of our favorite whiskey makers on these events designed for amateur and seasoned brown spirits enthusiasts alike. In a way, this Summer Whiskey Series is a sequence of previews before the big event, our annual Whiskey Bonanza– a sneak peek at the craftsmanship and innovation guests can expect to see in September.”
Kicking off the series on Friday, May 19 ahead of World Whiskey Day, the Twisted Tail will host a “Smoke & Sip” social hour featuring Angel’s Envy and smoked cocktails from 5 – 7 pm. Guests can indulge in three distinctive cocktails (each $18) made with the premium bourbon, including the classic Old Fashioned, the timeless Manhattan, and the signature Twisted Tail’s Devil’s Tail made with Angel’s Envy bourbon, Pedro Ximenez sherry, absinthe, and black walnut bitters. Phil Perkins, Angel’s Envy Whiskey Guardian, will be on-site to enhance the special cocktails by smoke-finishing live using a choice of cherry, maple, or cinnamon wood. Perkins will also be pouring complimentary tastings of Angel’s Envy and answering any questions about Angel’s Envy or the cocktail smoking process.
The series will continue on Wednesday, June 14 in honor of National Bourbon Day with a “Dip & Sip” social hour featuring Maker’s Mark from 5 – 7 pm. Leading up to the event, The Twisted Tail will save all of its Maker’s Mark bottles which will then be repurposed into limited edition rocks glasses by Remark Glass, a local, women-owned zero-waste glass repurposing company. During the event, these repurposed glasses will be dipped into the signature Maker’s Mark red wax by Maker’s Mark ambassadors and used to serve guests’ cocktails during the social hour. The supply of repurposed glasses is expected to be limited and will be available on a first-come first-served basis.
The Twisted Tail will be partnering with Laphroaig Whisky for the third installment of its whiskey series on National Scotch Day, Thursday, July 27 from 5-7 pm. And on Friday, August 25, National Whiskey Sour Day, The Twisted Tail will be offering $8 whiskey sours all night. Additional details for both events will be announced soon. Stay tuned to The Twisted Tail’s social media channels.
All four of the summer whiskey events are open to the public, 21+, and don’t require a ticket or reservation. Cocktails and social hour snacks are all pay as you go.
The Twisted Tail features one of Philadelphia’s largest selections of brown spirits at over 120 bottles, with rotating cocktails, whiskey flights and an impressive Owner’s Collection of limited annual releases and one-off expressions, including covetable selections like Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Revival and Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon.
