Freedom Theatre Rolls Out Their 2015 Featuring VIP Seating
Pennsylvania’s oldest African-American theatre has been going through a a facelift of sorts. With a new year underway the Freedom Theatre has announced its new line-up of fresh hip shows with a stylish and sophisticated vibe.
Once crowned “Theatre of the Year” by the Philadelphia Weekly, The Freedom Theatre looks to re-introduce itself to the public by rolling out the red carpet. As part of their efforts to improve the theatre’s ambiance, patrons are now able to purchase premium VIP Gold seating which comes with complimentary champagne. Guaranteed to be the best seats in the house, the newly available upgrade will provide spectators with exclusive balcony seating.
Whether you’re seated in VIP or general admission, Freedom Theatre’s new line-up of shows will be more than entertaining nonetheless. Staying true to its African-American roots, Freedom Theatre will cover many pop culture topics from Miles Davis to Broadway’s best musicals and each show promises to be uplifting along with being upbeat.
For those that love live performances and toe-tapping music catching a show at this historic landmark is definitely something that should be on your to-do list. Here are some of the can’t miss upcoming events:
Kind of Blue
by Ozzie Jones. Kind of Blue is an allegory about love told in verse inspired by the music of Miles Davis’s ground breaking tour de force Kind of Blue. The show has two actors, two dancers, and a small band or pianist. The show will be done in cabaret style in the old school Cottom Club tradition, The show will be catered by one of Philly’s finest caterers. Come out an d celebrate Valentine’s Day with us. Where love blooms!

Broadway on Broad Street:
is directed by Patricia Scott Hobbs. A toe tapping, lively celebration of our founder’s love for musicals with the selections from some of Broadway’s best musicals. Help the theatre celebrate our legacy and have great fun!

Home by Samm Art Williams
Freedom Theatre celebrates the 5th anniversary reading for Project1Voice, a national day of recognition of classics from the African American Canon read by our region’s foremost artist. Home by noted playwright Samm Art Williams follows the journey of a young man from the country farm to the city back to home. This year, Project1Voice will partner with the African American Farmers Collective to bring attention to the plight of African American farmers on a national level. Join us for this insightful and relevant play read by the Delaware Valley’s most talented artists.
