For $50 You Can Watch All 10 Best Picture Nominees & Get Free Popcorn During PFS’s “Best Picture Week”

The Philadelphia Film Society (PFS) is excited to celebrate the wonderful year in film during the Best Picture Week at the Philadelphia Film Center. Catch all 10 of the Best Picture nominees from Monday, March 21 through Saturday, March 26 and then continue the celebration and see who will go home with the gold at the 9th Annual Oscars Party & Screening on March 27.

Cinephiles can watch the best films of the year on the biggest screen in Center City for one low price with the Best Picture Week Pass ($50 /$40 PFS Members) on sale now. Pass includes one (1) free small popcorn each day of the event. Tickets can be purchased here.

THE POWER OF THE DOG leads Oscar Nominations with a total of 12 nods including Best Picture and a Best Director nomination for Jane Campion. With the sci-fi adaptation DUNE coming in second with a total of 10 nods. PFF30 films BELFAST, DRIVE MY CAR, and KING RICHARD received several nominations in addition to being in the running for Best Picture.

Other top nominated films include DON’T LOOK UP, NIGHTMARE ALLEY, and WEST SIDE STORY, which all screened at either the PFS Bourse, PFS Drive-In at the Navy Yard or Philadelphia Film Center.

Between the Philadelphia Film Festival and year-round programming at the Bourse, Film Center, and Drive-In, as well as Member exclusive advance screenings, the Philadelphia Film Society brought 22 Academy Award-nominated films to Philadelphia, with a total of 67 nominations between them.

Monday, March 21

DRIVE MY CAR | 6:30 PM

Adapted from Haruki Murakami’s short story, Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s DRIVE MY CAR is a haunting road movie traveling a path of love, loss, acceptance, and peace. Winner of three prizes at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, including Best Screenplay.

 

Thursday, March 24

CODA | 6:30 PM

As a CODA (child of deaf adults), Rudy is the only hearing person in her home. When she discovers a passion for singing, Ruby must choose between family obligations and her dreams. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner at Sundance Film Festival.

 

DON’T LOOK UP | 9:00 PM

DON’T LOOK UP tells the story of two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet earth.

 

Friday, March 25

BELFAST | 6:30 PM

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Kenneth Branagh, BELFAST is a poignant story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s.

 

DUNE | 8:30 PM

Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (ARRIVAL, BLADE RUNNER 2049) directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ DUNE, the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.

Saturday, March 26

WEST SIDE STORY | 10:00 AM

Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, WEST SIDE STORY tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.

 

THE POWER OF THE DOG | 1:00 PM

Written and directed by Academy Award® winning filmmaker Jane Campion, THE POWER OF THE DOG is “mesmerizing,” “astonishing,” “a masterpiece.” Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

 

KING RICHARD | 3:30 PM

KING RICHARD is based on the true story of Richard Williams, father of legendary tennis champions Venus and Serena, who overcame tremendous obstacles to forge a path for his daughters to reach the pinnacle of success.

 

LICORICE PIZZA | 6:30 PM

LICORICE PIZZA is the story of Alana Kane (Alana Haim) and Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman) growing up, running around and falling in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973.

 

NIGHTMARE ALLEY | 9:15 PM

In NIGHTMARE ALLEY, an ambitious carny (Bradley Cooper) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who is even more dangerous than he is.
