The hour and a half long experience will explore the changes to the property before and during the Chew family’s ownership\, how the land was used and learn about the trees in our newly accredited Level I Arboretum. \nThe Histories & Landscapes tour covers a half mile and there will be times to stop and sit during the walk. DESCRIPTION:Find out what Germantown was like on the eve of the Civil War during this walking tour. This program is offered in partnership with the Germantown Historical Society and the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion. \nThe walking tour begins at Cliveden (6401 Germantown Avenue\, 19144) and will end at the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion (200 W. Tulpehocken Street\, 19144)\, covering about two miles. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a drink if needed. After the tour\, visitors are welcome to stay at Ebenezer Maxwell for tours of the site or to walk back to Cliveden. Please plan travel and parking plan accordingly. Airy Learning Tree Winter Class \nLearn about famous artists from the 18th and 19th centuries including John Smibert\, John Wollaston and Germantown locals James Reid and George Cochran Lambdin while exploring the portraits at Cliveden. Participants will learn about the artists\, period painting styles and the people in the portraits and then have an opportunity to look at many of the paintings up close. The class fee is $25. SUMMARY:Spotlight Tour: Houses of the Revolutionary City
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the American Philosophical Society \nInspired by the stories in the American Philosophical Society’s 2025 exhibition\, Philadelphia\, The Revolutionary City\, this series of tours invites you to visit four important historic houses here in Philadelphia.  Each Saturday in September we will meet to learn about a different historic house and its grounds\, with knowledgeable staff at each site. A member of the APS staff will also be on hand to point out the connections between the houses\, their stories\, and the exhibition Philadelphia\, the Revolutionary City. \nOn Saturday\, September 13th\, visitors will tour Cliveden beginning at 10:30am. The tour should last about 1 hour each and will require walking\, standing\, and some stairs. Accommodations are available. Please let us know in advance if you need accommodation. \nTickets are $8 per person; advanced registration is required.
