DESCRIPTION:Lombardi\, a play written by Academy Award winner Eric Simonson\, (2005 Documentary short) brings to life legendary football coach Vince Lombardi during a week in the 1965 NFL season when he coached the Green Bay Packers. The play\, based on the book When Pride Still Mattered by David Maraniss\, premiered in 2010 at Circle on the Square in New York\, starring Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) in the title role. Vince Lombardi led the Packers to three straight and five total NFL championships as well as victories in the first two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1967. \nLombardi\, born in Brooklyn in 1913\, the son of Italian immigrants\, rose to become a national symbol of determination to succeed and was widely admired for his views on hard work and winning.
