DESCRIPTION:FringeArts’ FEASTIVAL returns this year for the 14th time\, bringing together creative bites from over 20 of Philadelphia’s culinary leaders\, including Michael Ferreri of Irwin’s and Kiki Aranita of Poi Dog\, along with Wilder\, Kiddo\, Huda\, Almanac\, a.Kitchen\, and more. Thrilling performances from top artists with be featured alongside – or even above – the bites\, to benefit FringeArts\, now in its 29th year and currently presenting the largest iteration of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival to date\, with more than 350 shows. The annual fundraiser\, held with the support of Presenting Sponsor PECO/Exelon and Presenting Partner FringeBar\, will be hosted in the historical pumping station on the Delaware waterfront\, home to the FringeArts theater\, Fringe Bar\, and the outdoor Haas Biergarten. This project is comprised of extremely talented and seasoned musicians. Mike Armando was the original guitarist for Screamin’ Jay Hawkins back in the 1970’s. Another reason this project is exciting. The band is not just performing the music of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins but creating a time machine of one of rock’s true wild men. A show you will surely remember for many years. \nScreamin’ Jay Hawkins released “I Put a Spell On You” in 1956. The song\, that never made it to the charts when it was released\, would eventually be covered several hundred times by the likes of Nina Simone\, Credence Clearwater Revival\, and Marilyn Manson; Jeff Beck and Joss Stone’s version even received a Grammy nomination in 2010. It was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and was added to Rolling Stones’ list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. \nHawkins’ music and outlandish onstage persona inspired generations of musicians after him. And yet\, little is known of the man and little can be taken at face value. Hawkins interpreted his past with a poetic license to kill\, a magical amalgam of his own making—creating disparate stories alternatively terrible or sympathetic at his will.
