SUMMARY:Wissahickon Trails' Maple Sugaring Festival
DESCRIPTION:Learn how maple syrup and sugar are made – a delicious and fun way to make science come alive! Wissahickon Trails offers a special guided winter event that is ideal for families\, scout groups\, and anyone curious about the maple sugaring process. Guides will lead groups through the woods to see tapped maple trees and then follow the sap’s journey as it is boiled and converted into the products we know and love. Tours are approximately 45 minutes and will end with hot chocolate and pancakes! Tours begin at regular intervals from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Registration is required for this event. \n  \nBack again in 2026! \n\n Ridge Valley Farm will be selling their PA made maple syrup and other maple flavored goodies on-site at the festival. Cash and credit card will be accepted. Thank you to Ridge Valley Farm for donating the maple syrup for the festival!\nChef Chad Rosenthal will be joining us again this year! He will be providing a decadent maple butter that will be served with the pancakes.\n\nCommunity-funded Registrations \nIf the entry fee to attend the festival is prohibitive\, we have community-funded registrations at no cost. More information can be found here: Community-funded Registrations \nEvent Notes \n\n\nPre-Registration is Required \n\n\nNo walk-ins or day of registration \n\n\nDress for the weather and trail conditions; wear sturdy\, protective shoes or boots \n\n\nNo dogs or strollers please \n\n\nEvent Map: Click this link to view map \n\n\nAccessibility \nWheelchairs and strollers are not recommended for this event\, there are three wooden/metal bridges with steps that must be crossed. The guided tour primarily takes place on a narrow\, natural trail and in grassy areas which may have roots\, rocks\, and/or snow cover. The walking surfaces are variable and participants can expect to walk 1.0 miles (0.5 miles on tour + 0.5 miles return trip). On the tour\, there will be intermittent periods of standing\, approximately 45 minutes  in total. At the end of the tour there are indoor seating areas\, heating\, a water bottle refilling station\, and accessible all gender bathrooms on both floors. The first floor family restroom has a private changing table and there is a nearby private area that can be used as a lactation room. The Four Mills Barn has accessible outdoor entrances on both floors. However\, there is no elevator. Please notify alex@wissahickontrails.org with any additional accommodation needs.
