SUMMARY:Nanny Goat Fest
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nNanny Goat Fest Brings Street Festival and Historic Marker Dedication to Olde Kensington \nPhiladelphia\, PA — On Saturday\, May 9\, Nanny Goat Fest will transform American Street in Olde Kensington into a day-long street festival featuring live music\, food\, and a Pennsylvania Historical Marker dedication commemorating the 1844 Kensington Riots. \nThe free\, public event begins at 1 PM with the official dedication of a new Pennsylvania Historical Marker\, recognizing a pivotal chapter in Philadelphia history when anti-immigrant violence reshaped the city. The festival continues from 2 PM to 8 PM along American Street\, celebrating the resilience of the community that was rebuilt in the aftermath of the riots. \nPresented in part by the Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick\, Nanny Goat Fest will feature live Irish and folk music\, including performances by the John Byrne Band and Poor Man’s Gambit\, along with an Irish dance showcase and an open “Trad Session” acoustic jam tent where musicians are invited to bring instruments and join in. \nThe family-friendly festival will also feature dozens of local vendors and neighborhood businesses\, including Mom-Mom’s Kitchen\, Stateside Vodka\, and Yards Brewing Company\, creating a lively street market atmosphere in the heart of Kensington. \nThe event takes place on American Street between Master and Oxford Streets\, on the historic site of the former Nanny Goat Market\, a 19th-century public market that once stood at the center of Kensington’s immigrant community before it was destroyed during the riots. \nMore information\, including event details and historical background\, is available at www.nannygoatfest.com. Media assets and event graphics are available upon request. \nPress Contact:\nKevin Brett\nnannygoatfest@gmail.com\n215-518-9440 \nEvent Contact:\nMeredith Rebar\nHome Brewed Events\nhomebrewedeventspa@gmail.com\n610-212-0843

SUMMARY:A History of Lager. From Germany to PA
DESCRIPTION:The lively and entertaining lager history seminar will be led by Philly’s favorite drinks author Marnie Old on the topic of “500 Years of Lager Brewing: The German Tradition & the American Dream”. It will feature a guided sampling of 8 beers from both Germany and Pennsylvania as an exploration of the origins of lager\, from the style’s 15th century Bavarian orgins up through to today\, where our state leads the nation in craft lager brewing! (Please note: This presentation and tasting is identical in beers and content to the sold-out VIP Plus seminar taking place at the main 2/28 event\, just on 2/21 and in a larger space.) \nAfter the seminar\, guests will head downstairs to the German Society’s Ratskeller Tavern for “Bierfest Pre-Fest Happy Hour” sponsored by Bitburger and My Local Brew Works\, where their ticket includes their first beer and a Bavarian soft pretzel. See below for complete Bierfest Pre-Fest Happy Hour details. This Bierfest-themed social event is sponsored by two of our biggest beer sponsors: Bitburger and My Local Brew Works. It will incorporate some of the best elements of the event we all know and love\, including delectable lagers from PA and Germany\, tasty wursts\, and fun activities like Roller-Derby Quizzo\, hosted by local roller-derby maven turned author Erica “Double H” Vanstone. Meet the brewers of the newest incarnation of old-time Philly fave Gretz Brewing Company and sample Declaration lager\, the official beer of America250PA – our state’s semiquincentenial celebration organizers.
